Job Descriptions

The following is a brief description of several job positions that may be present in a modern day household. These definitions are in no way binding. Many job responsibilities overlap and these "titles" may hold different meanings around the world. All salary ranges are approximate and do not take into account benefits, bonuses, and or experience levels.

Housekeeper

A housekeeper is an individual responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the interior of a residence. The term is almost exclusively applied to females; males are generally referred to as house cleaners, head of household staff, or, under the old British Commonwealth system as houseboys (regardless of age).

Nanny

A nanny is defined as "a child's nurse". The traditional nanny was a servant in a large household and reported directly to the lady of the house. Nannies were always female and this remained the case through the 20th Century.
